You can customize your experience with Power-user and save your preferences in the Settings. The Settings can be opened from the very left of the Power-user ribbon, or from the backstage.

Settings for Power-user in general

  • Prompt for updates at startup: this setting lets you activate or deactivate updates prompts. We recommend keeping these prompts active so you can keep your Power-user license up to date, and benefit from the new features and bug fixes we release periodically.
  • Grey out features when there is no active document (recommended): when this checked, the ribbon will grey our features that cannot be applied in the current context. For instance, Swap Positions can only be clicked if you currently have 2 shapes selected. Except for specific cases, we recommend keeping this checked.
  • Show warning in panes when current set up can cause display issues: when this is checked, Power-user will show a discrete information message in the task panes when the user is in the specific set up that can cause display issues with secondary monitors
  • Save Power-user libraries in: by default, libraries are saved in Documents\Power-user. However you can change where these files should be saved by clicking the "..." button on the right and browsing for another folder. This can be typically useful in some organizations that do not allow saving anything in Documents for instance.
  • Open temporary files folder: this will open the folder on your computer where temporary files such as logs or previews will be saved before they get deleted.
  • Optional libraries: on top of the main libraries of templates, icons, maps, etc., you can also download optional libraries.
    • The Modern theme of icons
    • The Islands maps
  • Power-user display language: switch the language of Power-user. Available languages include:
    • English
    • French
    • Spanish

Power-user l Settings for Power-user in general and PowerPoint

Settings for PowerPoint

  • Power-user is the default tab: this will make PowerPoint open on the Power-user tab, and this tab will also be shown by default every time a new shape is created, so you can easily format it.
  • Show PowerPoint hints at startup: when this is checked, Power-user will show hint notifications when the application is launched, so you can gradually learn about some features, discover new keyboard shortcuts, etc.
  • Open Tab Explorer at startup: when this is checked, PowerPoint will always open with the Tab Explorer active.
  • In Tab Explorer, use one line per application: when this is checked, all windows listed in the Tab Explorer will be displayed application by application, with a line break for each application.
  • Open Library at startup: when this is check, Power-user will always open with the Library active.
  • Add Notes when templates or agenda pages are inserted: uncheck this to remove the information about Power-user that is automatically added into the Notes when a template is inserted (for copyright reminder) or when an agenda page is created (to let recipients of the presentation know how to update the agenda).
  • Show Organize toolbar when similar shapes are selected: when this option is ON, Power-user will show a minimized version of the Organize feature dynamically next to your shapes, so you can instantly reorganize them in a number of rows and columns.
  • Sticky notes insertion positionchoose between inserting Sticky notes in the inside or outside corner of the slide.

Settings for Excel

  • Show Excel hints at startup: when this is checked, Power-user will show hint notifications when the application is launched, so you can gradually learn about some features, discover new keyboard shortcuts, etc.
  • Load intellisense to show tooltips in Advanced Functions: unchecking this will stop loading the Intellisense module. This module is used to show tooltips with arguments and a function description when users are typing an advanced function. In some rare cases, it can cause issues in Excel, so this setting will allow users in that situation to disable it.
  • Open Tab Explorer at startup: when this is checked, Excel will always open with the Tab Explorer active.
  • In Tab Explorer, use one line per application: when this is checked, all windows listed in the Tab Explorer will be displayed application by application, with a line break for each application.
  • Open Library at startup: when this is check, Power-user will always open with the Library active.
  • Disable F1 shortcut (changes will apply after restart): this allow users to remove the annoying F1 shortcut that opens a help webpage. Because the F2 key is very important in Excel for entering into a cell and editing a formula, the F1 shortcut can often be pressed by mistake, so it can be convenient to disable it.
